I have a very strong testimony about the role of family as
the best way to help us prepare for eternal life as well as its purpose to
provide us with the most joy we could ever experience. What stood out to me from the quotes I chose
what just how vital of a role the parents play in raising righteous
children. First and foremost we need to
have the Savior as the central role of our family. We need to have strong marriages as a
foundation in our families. We need to
value our children and it is our responsibility to raise our children righteously
by setting good examples, ensuring that we have family prayer, scripture study
and family home evening. I know as I
strive to lead my family in this way we will be blessed with peace and the
blessing to live together eternally as a family.

"There is a saying that big gates move on small hinges. Sisters, your example in seemingly small things will make a big difference in the lives of our young people. The way you dress and groom yourselves, the way you talk, they way you pray, the way you testify, the way you live every day will make the difference. The includes which TV shows you watch, which music you prefer, and how you use the Internet. If you love to go to the temple, the young people who value your example will also love to go. If you adapt your wardrobe to the temple garment and not the other way around, they will know what you consider important, and they will learn from you."

“A good marriage and good family relationships can be maintained through
gentle, loving, thoughtful communication. Remember that often a glance,
a wink, a nod, or a touch will say more than words. A sense of humor
and good listening are also vital parts of good communication.”

"Be certain that every decision you make, whether temporal or spiritual, is conditioned on what the Savior would have you do. When He is the center of your home, there is peace and serenity. There is a spirit of assurance that pervades the home, and it is felt by all who dwell there."

"Young men, I hope you appreciate the sacrifices which your parents so willingly make in order for you to serve. Their labors will sustain you, their faith encourage you, their prayers uphold you. A mission is a family affair. Though the expanse of continents or oceans may separate, hearts are as one."

"Many of you have loved ones who are wondering off the path to eternal life. You wonder what more you can do to bring them back. You can depend on the Lord to draw closer to them as you serve Him in faith."

"We will not always be safe from the adversary's influence, even within our own homes. We need to protect our nestlings.... Latter-day Saints recognize the transcendent importance of the family and strive to live in such a way that the adversary cannot steal into our homes. We find safety and security for ourselves and our children in honoring the covenants we have made and living up to the ordinary acts of obedience required of the followers of Christ."

"Remember, brethren, that in your role as leader in the family, your wife is your companion.... Since the beginning, God has instructed mankind that marriage should unite husband and wife together in
unity. Therefore, there is not a president or a vice president in a family. The couple works together eternally for the good of the family. They are united together in word, in deed, and in action as they lead guide, and direct their family unit. They are on equal footing. They plan and organize the affairs of the family jointly and unanimously as they move forward." Elder L. Tom Perry, "Fatherhood, An Eternal Calling," General Conference April 2004

"Marriage and family are ordained of God. The family is the most important social unit in time and in eternity. Under God's great plan of happiness, families can be sealed in temples and be prepared to return to dwell in His holy presence forever. That is eternal life! It fulfills the deepest longings of the human soul- the natural yearning for endless association with beloved members of one's family."

"I'm sure you can identify the fundamental principles that center your
home on the Savior. The prophetic counsel to have daily personal and
family prayer, daily personal and family scripture study, and weekly
family home evening are the essential weight-bearing beams in the
construction of a Christ-centered home. Without these regular practices
it will be difficult to find the desired and much-needed peace and
refuge from the world."
